Scale Maps for Cello is a 24-page visual workbook designed to help cellists understand how two-octave major scales travel across the fingerboard.

Instead of seeing a scale only as notes on a staff, students can follow its physical route across a real cello neck. Each map shows the strings, positions, extensions, shifts, and landing points used in the scale, helping students connect written music with the geography of the instrument.

The blank circles can be completed with:

– note names
– finger numbers
– or both in separate passes

Each map also includes questions about the key signature, sharps or flats, half steps, open strings, positions, and extensions. This encourages students to think through the structure of the scale before playing it.

The colour system is drawn from The String Player’s Color Position Method, with each colour acting as a visual landmark for a region of the cello neck.
